| Outcomes: Students become familiar with the most influential current theories and research findings in social psychology. They are familiar with the research methods used in social psychology and the particular ethical problems raised when working in socially sensitive areas. Students are also familiar with the applications of social psychology to real-world settings. | |
| Content: This unit examines, at an advanced level, the factors that influence psychological functioning in a social environment. The unit considers some of the latest theories, research and applications in areas such as attitudes, stereotyping and prejudice, relationships, altruism and social groups. | |
| Assessment: Students demonstrate achievement of the outcomes in a variety of assessment methods which may include an essay/report assignment (30 per cent), a participation component (10 per cent) and an examination (60 per cent). Supplementary assessment is not available in this unit except in the case of a bachelor's pass degree student who has obtained a mark of 45 to 49 and is currently enrolled in this unit, and it is the only remaining unit that the student must pass in order to complete their course. | |
